Welcoming Your Product Home
Bearfare products come unseasoned to allow customers the joy of seasoning their product for the first time. Additionally, this helps educate you on how best to care for your item.
A mineral oil sample is provided for first-time seasoning - a critical to ensuring longevity and hygiene. Unseasoned wood products will be very thirsty and require a generous, thorough application of oil.
Step 1: Clean Wood
Wash and scrub with warm, soapy water and dry immediately. Let air dry completely.
Step 2: Apply Oil
Generously apply the provided oil sample directly to the wood until the surface is dripping wet on all sides. Use a dry, clean cloth or paper towel to apply the oil directly onto the surface of the board. Work in sections applying in the direction of the wood grain. Let oil absorb for five minutes.
Step 3: Repeat
Reapply oil twice or more to ensure there are no thin or extra-thirsty areas. It's not possible to over-oil your wood product, once fully saturated the wood will simply stop absorbing it and collect on the surface. Generally, the more the better.
Step 4: Dry Overnight
Let oil soak in, overnight if possible, or for at least four to six hours.
Step 5: Wipe Off Excess
Wipe down all surfaces to remove any excess oil. If it feels a little sticky, use a new dry, clean cloth or paper towel and wipe down all surfaces to remove any excess oil.
